Other issues include treatment by police, disability assistance, threat of legal action, social assistance, immigration, other family issues, and criminal charges. While not as many people experience these issues, the journey is significant for those that do.

Remember also that one life situation can create many legal issues. For example, your client might be single, pregnant, and worried about how she’s going to support her child after just losing her job. She may have a discrimination complaint against her former employer if she was terminated for being pregnant. This is an employment law issue. She may also be thinking about asking for child support from the baby’s father. This is a family law issue. Finally, she may need help applying for maternity and paternity leave benefits if she qualifies.
