2.6 Step 5: Find reliable legal information
The Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (CPLEA) produces legal information about many areas of the law and in many different formats. Our mission is to create resources that help people understand their rights and obligations under the law. We strive to improve both access to justice and the quality of justice available to Albertans. Our vision is for every Albertan to have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deal with their legal issues.
Before you start sharing with your client, a few words of caution!
You cannot give legal advice unless you are a licensed lawyer. Not sure what the difference is between legal advice and legal information? Worry not! Our Legal Info and Advice course will help you understand the difference and learn how to avoid giving legal advice while still providing your client with valuable legal information.
We live in the age of information overload. A quick Google search results in more information than we know what to do with. But not all information is equal! To help you find good legal information online, we outline 6 clues in our info sheet: Is It Reliable? 6 Clues to Good Legal Information Online.
